Heavy Media Cyclones
Heavy Media Cyclone are used in Coal Washeries. Gravimetric separation takes place inside the Cyclone due to buoyancy of heavy media forcing the lighter particles to the outer periphery of the Cyclone where they are transported upwards through the vortex finder.
The denser particles spiral towards the apex and exit through the underflow of the Cyclone.
These Cyclones can process particles from 0.1mm up to 70mm size. Cyclones are widely used because of their efficiency in separating particles and have Ep values of +99%. They are strongly recommended for preparation of typical Indian coal that has high ash and high percentage of Near Gravity Material-NGM. From inside, the Cyclones are lined with Ceramic Tiles containing more than 90% Alumina for enhanced wear resistance.
